Josef
Sy was born in Cebu, Philippines. His father sent him to art workshops
every summer after seeing he has potential in art. There, he learned
basic draughtsmanship and portraiture under local artists Boy Sagario
and later on, Tony Vidal. Josef's family moved to Canada when he
was sixteen, three years after his father passed away. He continued
to pursue fine arts in high school and at the University of Toronto
but later abandoned the pursuit due to lack of 'hands on' in the
program. Also at this time, he was introduced to a famous Canadian
painter named John Michael Angel and later attended a weekend seminar.
He right away fell in love with the beauty, the skill and the ways
of the academic/ classical techniques where today's modern studios
grow lacking. He began painting in oil in shortly after. He continued
to draw and paint accepting commissions during his time at Sheridan
College where he studied classical animation and fashion design.
After college, he was hired as a 3D animator by Ubisoft
Entertainment in Montreal. Today he resides in Lachenaie,
Quebec working for sfx company Hybride
Technologies as an animator and continues to practice and do
portraits in his spare time. |
